US & Canadian Nationals Results October 27, 2008
Posted by wedge in : recaps , add a commentWhie looking at BFC I saw that they had posted an article about the Canadian Barefoot Nationals that took place August 21st to 24th. The article was well done and highlighted the notably portiions of the event, including the 15 foot flyer done by the 65 year young Ross Holden. For the full results, I’ve tracked down the posted results from the Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada Website (that name just doesn’t roll of the tongue.)
It got me thinking that I haven’t heard anything about the US Nationals that took place August 12th to 16th. I scoured the BFC website looking for details and came up empty. I then began looking across the inter web and found the results on the American Barefoot Club’s site. Not a whole lot of details about how things went, but they have all the results. Here’s the link for the recap. I’ve also opted to include the article below, because I wasn’t able to find a direct link to it and it may eventually disappear.
Lake Elmo Sports Barefoot National Championships Begin

The US Barefoot National Championship began Wednesday August 13th at the “Blue Moo.” This beautiful site is found just outside of Black River Falls, Wisconsin , Wisconsin and being donated to the event by the Blake Heller Family. The Final Overall Results features skier from the very youngest to the very senior such as Jim Boyette and John McDonald. For the individual events use the following links:
Tradition at this event, has every skier randomly assigned to a barefoot teams. There will be either 9 or 10 skiers on each team. The teams are then auctioned off with have of the money being paid out in prize money and the other half will support the US Barefoot Teams attending the World Championships in January. Scoring for the team is the similar to the World Championships. Each team member’s overall score (from each event) is used in the scoring. The top 5 scores from each event are included in the overall for each team. This is a lot of fun because a Junior skier can be just as (or more) important than the World Champion Keith StOnge.

Dam to Dam 2008 October 14, 2008
Posted by wedge in : announcements , 2commentsThe Austin Barefoot Club is once again holding the big race. Located in Austin, Texas, this is the endurance race to compete in. It’ll take place the weekend of November 8th and 9th.
For those unfamiliar with the idea of endurance racing, combine aspects of the following sports in your in head…
- NASCAR
- Top Fuel Drag Racing
- Relay Racing (from Track and Field)
- and Barefooting
Why?
- NASCAR… because there are a lot of people on the water at once
- Top Fuel Drag Racing… because everyone goes from 0 to full speed damn near instantly
- Relay Racing… because its a team sport, everyone does their part, and the handle is the baton
- Barefooting… because that’s how you’ll go from the start line to the finish line
The tag line on the flyer is “Bring Your Heart and Bare Your Soles!” and I think it is very fitting.
Here are a couple videos I found showing the experience…
now defunct “Barefoot Waterski Racing Cup Series”
This video does a good job of showing the experience

Redneck Barefooting September 24, 2008
Posted by wedge in : recaps, stunts , add a commentHere’s what we need:
- rope… check
- wetsuit… check
- kneeboard… check
- snowmobile… check
Snowmobile? Yes, snowmobile. Don’t need a boat or even a jet ski. Just something that can move over the water.
KSO, on a trip to Wisconsin decided to try out footing on a small private body of water behind a snowmobile. Here’s the video…
Redneck Barefooting with KSO [video]
Then, based on some dates, shortly after doing this, KSO went on to win his 9th Barefoot Nationals at the Blue Moo followed by Footstock in Crandon. He had a busy summer in Wisconsin.

It’s that time of year again… the folks in Crandon, WI are putting together THE FIGURE-8 TOURNAMENT of the year. The competition is always fast and furious. They’ll be big names in the barefooting world showing up to compete that fall on their face and no names that surprise the hell out of everyone. They’ll be guys wearing the pinks shirts to let people know who they lost to. The boys from South Africa will be there trying to show they got some endurance skills to go with their mad trick skills.
This year MasterCraft and Redline have teamed up to pull FootStock 2008 with a revved up engine with over 400hp! Redline will also be offering test pulls behind the 400hp 214 for all participants of Footstock. People can schedule the appointment with Brian at Redline by phone or email. His email is brianb@redlinewatersports.com or call 608-838-0838. More details, click here.

Father’s Day Weekend Figure-8’s June 16, 2008
Posted by wedge in : recaps , 1 comment so farJust wondering if anyone knows if the Kwahamot Figure-8 (Saturday in Tomahawk, WI) and Silver Sheet Figure-8 Challenge (Rolling Prairie, IN) happened this past weekend (not sure if the weather/flooding had any impact on them) and if so, who won?
I’ve scoured the net for results and keep coming up empty. Anyone out there know what happened?
Mad-City Dual 2008 - Slightly Longer Recap June 10, 2008
Posted by wedge in : recaps , add a commentMichael Franks mailed in his recap of the barefoot figure 8 tournament to BFC… he’s got a few more first hand details, since he was actually present at the tourny. Head on over to Barefoot Central and check out the recap. There’s some pictures of the “weather” there too.
For a truly brief recap, head on over to BareFootSki dot com… they got a really young looking picture of Stokes in their story.
Mad-City Dual 2008 - The Very Brief Results June 9, 2008
Posted by wedge in : recaps , add a commentJust wanted to do a quick recap of what happended this past Saturday at the Mad-City Dual…
The wind was windy, the bay was still relatively sea weed free (at least at the surface) and the weather provided some excitement for everyone…
With the wind blowing strong in Madison, the normlly calm bay, proved to be a bit rougher than normal. Rougher to the point that the longest 8 of the day was half an 8, which was put up by Paul Stokes. Ironically, if the bay had been weedier, the water would have been calmer, but you can’t have everything.
Roughly 18 to 20 footers suited up for the off again, then back on again, figure 8 tournament. From what I heard, there were supposed to be a few more, but they opted out at the last minute. There was a group from Michigan that made the long haul to Madison for the tourny and they had a good time.
Paul Stokes added another ring to the Mad-City Dual Championship Ring collection that he has going, but not before he missed a step off… rumor on the street is Frank the Tank has a good series of pictures of this rare event. Meanwhile Footstock Dave managed to catch a lot of the many falls on video, which once posted, should provide a lot of entertainment.
Afterwards, most of the footers headed over to Olin Park for some frosty beverages at the Clean Lakes Festival. They arrived in time to catch a bit of the bands, drink some beer and eat some foot before the weather kicked into high gear. It went from a hot, muggy day to pretty cool in a matter of moments, storms popped up out of nowhere, we saw clouds moving in a circular motion over the lake as everyone kept drinking beer until the festival was called to do severe weather.
Props to the One Love Footing Team for putting this together with Paul Stokes and congrats to Stokes for winning yet again.
I’m hoping to get some more first hand details, pictures, and potentially some video to post from this event.
I guess this recap became a little bit longer than I thought it would be.
